This Rustic Oak Coffee Table is my all time favourite piece of furniture that I've ever made!
The absolutely huge slab of Oak was on a marina in Hayling island, Hampshire for decades, being battered by the elements it has the most incredible patina and colour.
We managed to buy it off the owner and using a forklift truck to move it got in the van to take it to safety!
After leaving it to dry during the summer we then had it milled in half thickness wise as it was just too heavy to move, a day spent scraping the old mud and decay off exposed the most beautiful textured surface and stunning patterns in the grain.
It has been estimated that the tree would've been 400 yrs old, It's been standing on the boat yard for up to 50 years.
I made a base for it using reclaimed Chestnut beams, the Coffee table is a triangular shape and I wanted the legs to splay out at two angles which was hugely time consuming and tricky, but it looks fantastic!
The Oak coffee table has a solid oak shelf underneath to hide magazine's and newspapers, and finished in a natural wax to nourish and enhance this ancient old timber, this is the ultimate statement piece of furniture and whoever gets to own it will be very lucky indeed!
It'll be available on my website soon, If you would like to come and view it please get in touch.
